About

Dr Yaa Danso is a gastroenterology Specialist Registrar and an IBD Clinical Research Fellow at St Mark’s Hospital, the UK’s national bowel hospital. Her clinical focus is inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) — Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis — with research investigating the impact of fatigue in IBD, its psychological drivers, and novel pharmacological and psychological treatment strategies.

She trained at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, graduating in 2013, and completed Foundation and Core Medical training in the North West deanery in Manchester before entering higher specialty training in gastroenterology. She is now based at St Mark’s with research collaborations across Imperial College London.

In October 2025 she was awarded the best abstract presentation prize in the Patient Reported Outcomes and Quality of Life in IBD section at UEG Week 2025, one of the largest gastroenterology meetings in Europe.

Outside her clinical research she is active with the Ghanaian Doctors and Dentists Association UK (GDDAUK), where she has been featured as a conference speaker on elderly-care matters.
